Digitalisation of Land Records Gains Momentum Across India

India is witnessing a monumental shift in its land record management, moving towards a fully digitised ecosystem. This ambitious undertaking is set to revolutionise property ownership verification, transaction processes, and dispute resolution across the nation.

Computerisation and Unique Identification

Recent reports indicate remarkable progress in the digital overhaul of land records. Approximately 99.90% of Records of Rights (RoRs) have been successfully computerised nationwide. Furthermore, an impressive 40.58 crore land parcels have been allocated a unique 14-digit identification number, commonly referred to as Bhu-Aadhaar or ULPIN (Unique Land Parcel Identification Number).

This digital integration aims to consolidate various data points, including property maps, registration details, ownership records, circle rates, zoning information, and encumbrances. The objective is to create a cohesive and transparent property-record system, significantly reducing ambiguity and potential for fraud.

Technology plays a crucial role in this modernisation drive. The NAKSHA programme utilises advanced tools such as drones equipped with sophisticated cameras and LiDAR sensors.
